SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The No. 15 Santa Barbara women's water polo team was unable to defeat No. 5 UC Irvine. The Gauchos fell to the Anteaters 6-3 in their third conference game of the season.
The game started off with the Anteaters overpowering the Gauchos on the scoreboard, scoring two in the first quarter and three in the second quarter. The star of today's game was Freshman goalie Nikki Quinn, starting out the game with a huge 5-meter shot block and ending with six powerful saves in all.
The third quarter had both teams defense and goalies on top of their game with a scorless quarter for both teams. The Gauchos were able to bounce back in the fourth quarter as Freshman Taylor Shore, Freshman Carly Christian, and Sophomore Bryn Hudson were each able to get a shot and goal for the Gauchos. Although the Gauchos fought hard, they came up short to the Anteaters and ended the game with a 6-3 loss.
UCSB take on the No. 12 Long Beach State in their fourth conference game of the season tomorrow at 12pm in Long Beach, Calif.
