UCSB's Dylan Kubick Named MPSF Athlete of the Week

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara sophomore Dylan Kubick was awarded the MPSF Male Athlete of the Week after his victories at UNLV last Saturday. Kubick won the 200 freestyle (1:40.93) and 200 IM (1:52.25), and also took fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:08.81). This is Kubick's first career MPSF honor. Kubick's points contributed to a huge victory over the men of UNLV, a feat that hasn't been achieved in over a decade.

Katie Records was also nominated to be the MPSF Female Athlete of the Week after winning three individual events at UNLV. Records took the win in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.91), the 200 breaststroke (2:20.38), and the 200 IM (2:05.98).

At the midway point of the season, four Gaucho swimmers are ranked competitively in NCAA rankings. Senior captain Wade Allen ranks 22nd in the 50 freestyle (19.74), 33rd in the 100 freestyle (43.56), and 25th in the 100 butterfly (47.00). Mickey Mowry is ranked 21st in the 200 butterfly (1:44.58). For the women, Katie Records is ranked 49th in the 200 breaststroke (2:13.56) and Heren Alanis is ranked 50th in the 400 IM (4:15.46).

Be sure to stop by Campus Pool to watch these stellar Gauchos swim their signature events with the rest of the UCSB team as they take on Pacific and LMU in duel meets tomorrow Jan. 23.
