Box Score SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara Women's Volleyball team won its third straight match Friday night sweeping rival Cal Poly on the road 3-0. The Gauchos are now off to a 3-0 start in Big West play having won nine of their last 10 sets.
ON THE STAT SHEET
- UCSB dominated the match never allowing Cal Poly to hit higher than a .167 in any set
- The Gauchos outhit the Mustangs .347 to .133
- Tasia Farmer led all players with 11 kills and swung a potent .444 clip
- Mehana Ma'a led the Gauchos with 17 assists and Grace Kloss followed with 16
- Macall Peed led all players with 15 digs and went a perfect 19-for-19 on reception attempts
- Rowan Ennis added nine kills and led the way with five blocks
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set (25-19 UCSB)
- The Gauchos grabbed the momentum early in front of a packed Cal Poly crowd never allowing the Mustangs to lead in the opening set
- The UCSB lead stretched out to as much as eight and the Gauchos held the Mustangs to a match-low .111 hitting percentage
- UCSB clinched the set on a Mustang attack error
Second Set (25-19 UCSB)
- The second frame saw the host Mustangs find their feet as 11 ties and four lead changes took place
- The two teams traded punches until they met at 16-16, then the Gauchos erupted on a 9-3 run to end the set
- Michelle Ohwobete found five kills to go with a pair of the digs and assists
- Once again the Gaucho defense played a huge role holding the Mustangs to a .122 hitting percentage
Third Set (25-21 UCSB)
- Once again the two rivals kept it a tight race through the early points until the Mustangs grabbed an 18-15 lead, drawing a time out from Head Coach Nicole Lantagne Welch
- The timeout proved effective as the Gauchos jumped out to a 7-0 run giving them a 22-18 with Peed holding serve
- A service error by the Mustangs ended the match
