• The Gaucho Rewind: Matches 12 and 13
Match 12: UCSB 1, UC Davis 0 (OT): Leila Emmerson scored the game-winner in the 97th minute to get the Gauchos their second win in three games.

Match 13: UCSB 0, Hawai'i 0 (2OT): Evann Smith picked up her fifth clean sheet of the season and second in a row with six saves, earning her Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors.

• Smith Named Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Week
Evann Smith earned the honor on Oct. 4 after making eight saves and backstopping the defense to two shutouts in the two Big West Conference games at UC Davis and Hawai'i. It is the first weekly award earned by the Gauchos this season.

• Family Affair
The Gauchos' eight goals this season have come from seven different goalscorers. Lauren Helwig has two, and Dylan LewisAlyssa O'BrienEmma VanderhydenShaye Douglas, Leila Emmerson, and Sophia Vivar each have one.

• Gauchos Picked to Finish Third in Preseason Poll; Grouwinkel Named Preseason All-Conference
UCSB earned 94 points in the preseason poll that is decided upon by the 11 head coaches of the Big West programs. The final tally put the Gauchos in a tie with UC Irvine, which also received 94 points. UCSB and Cal State Fullerton were the only other teams to receive multiple first place votes with each program garnering a pair. Long Beach State placed first in the poll receiving 106 points and Fullerton was a close second with 104.

Senior forward Claire Grouwinkel made the preseason All-Big West list for the first time as a Gaucho. She was named Second Team All-Big West in 2018 after leading UC Irvine, her former team, with six goals on the year.

• The Stumpf File
Paul Stumpf is in his 23rd season as UCSB's head coach. He currently possesses a school record 196 wins and an overall mark of 196-168-50. Stumpf is a two-time Big West Conference Coach of the Year (1999 and 2015), he has guided the program to two NCAA Tournaments, coached six Big West Offensive Players of the Year and three Big West Freshmen of the Year. Including his one season as an assistant coach at UCSB, he has been with the program for 24 seasons.
