Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif.— The Gauchos kept it rolling Friday night sweeping Long Beach State at home to win their fifth straight match. The UCSB Women's Volleyball team is now 5-0 in Big West play and is over the .500 mark for the first time this season with a 9-8 overall record.
ON THE STAT SHEET
- The Gauchos outhit the Beach .230 to .185 picking up 41 kills on 100 swings
- UCSB kept the Long Beach offense out of rhythm posting nine total aces
- UCSB truly spread the love on the attack with no players reaching double digit kills, but six different Gauchos notching five or more
- Tallulah Froley led the way with nine kills, Macall Peed headlined the dig efforts with nine, and Rowan Ennis slammed down four blocks
- Grace Kloss and Mehana Ma'a divvied up the assist efforts with 18 apiece
- Michelle Ohwobete saw a career-high four aces
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set (26-14 UCSB)
- The opening set was the closest contest of the night going into extra points and despite allowing the Beach to swing a match-high .357 hitting percentage UCSB managed to stay within four points
- The two teams met at 18-18 and traded off points until they met again at 24-24 with Long Beach foiling UCSB's 24-23 set point
- Back-to-back kills from Froley and Ohwobete gave UCSB the set win
Second Set (25-20 UCSB)
- The Gaucho defense bent but refused to break holding the Beach to a .000 hitting percentage
- The two team traded points through much of the set that saw a match-high 10 ties and four lead changes
- Tied at 16-16 the Gauchos rode a 9-4 run to end capped off by a big kill from Abrielle Bross
Third Set (25-19 UCSB)
- UCSB posted a match-high 18 kills, swung a .333 clip, and converted on 85% of its sideout opportunities in the final set
- The Gaucho lead came a little earlier this time as the home team never looked back after taking an 11-10 lead
- The match ended on a Long Beach attack error

UCSB will look for its sixth straight win tomorrow night vs Cal State Fullerton. The match begins at 6:00 PM PT in the Thunderdome.
