SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara men's water polo team (20-8, 2-2 GCC) picked up its fifth win in the past six games with a 13-4 victory over No. 8 San Jose State on Saturday afternoon at Campus Pool.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Gauchos blanked San Jose State in both the first and third periods and only allowed two goals in each of the other two to win handily.
- Sam Nangle set the tone with back-to-back goals in the first period, and Dash McFarland and Sawyer Rhodes each added a goal to extend the lead to 4-0.
- After taking a 6-2 lead into the half, UCSB continued to pile on the goals in the third quarter, with Nangle completing his hat trick with 5:05 left in the game.
- The Gauchos comfortably saw out the game, improving to 2-2 in the Golden Coast Conference with the win. In the final tally, Cole Brosnan and Nathan Puentes had two goals apiece with Ryan Brosnan, Colton Gregory, Mason Chambliss, and Adam Gyenis also getting their names on the scoresheet. Goalkeeper Danny Roland took the win and made seven saves, while Connor MacDonald played the final quarter and made three.
