Box Score MORAGA, Calif.– The UC Santa Barbara Men's Basketball team (5-3) dropped a tough road contest to host Saint Mary's (9-2) Saturday afternoon 80-59.
ON THE STAT SHEET
- The Gael's defense, held the Gauchos to a season-low 59 points shooting just 44.9% from the field
- Amadou Sow was the sole Gaucho in double-figures going 4-for-9 from the field and 6-for-6 from the free throw line for 15 points
- Sow led all players with seven boards as well
- Josh Pierre-Louis went 4-for-7 making the sole three he took and totaling nine points and three rebounds
- Robinson Idehen picked up eight points, three boards, and two steals in just under 20 minutes
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half (38-22 SMC)
- Despite being held to 32.0% shooting in the first half the Gauchos hung around through the first 17 minutes keeping the deficit within single digits
- It wasn't until late in the period that the Gaels made their move in the final three minutes scoring a flurry of threes to take a 16-point lead into the locker room
- SMC shot 6-for-12 from deep in the half
Second Half (42-37 SMC)
- UCSB fared better in the second half scoring 37 points and losing the point differential by just five, but SMC was determined to protect its undefeated home record intact
- The Gauchos shot 58.3% in the second half which was the best mark by either team in one half
- The Gaels stretched the lead out to as much as 27 points in the second period
