LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara women's water polo team fell 21-3 to top-ranked USC at Uytengsu Aquatics Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans scored five goals in both the first and second periods to lead 10-2 at halftime. They tacked on eight in the third and three in the final frame to complete the victory.
Junior attacker Amanda Legaspi scored UCSB's lone goal in the first quarter, and freshman attacker Leigh Lyter put two goals in the back of the cage for the Gauchos, one in the second and fourth quarters.
Junior attackers Dani Kauahi and Caitlyn Snyder led the way with four shots apiece, followed closely behind by Legaspi and Snyder with three each.
The Gauchos take on UC Davis in Big West play next week in their home opener at Campus Pool. The two will face off in a Sunday afternoon doubleheader, with games scheduled to take place at 12 and 4 p.m. Live stats will be available on UCSBGauchos.com.
