Gauchos Climb to 2nd-Place Tie Entering Third Round of UC San Diego Invitational

CARLSBAD, Calif - The UC Santa Barbara golf team climbed from sixth-place after the first round into a tie for second-place following the second round at the UC San Diego Invitational on Monday.

The Gauchos struggled through the first round, shooting a 28-over par 308, but in the second round, the Gauchos pulled themselves together and shot a 4-over par 292, vaulting them into a tie for second-place with Southern Utah.

"We played much better in the second round," said head coach Steve Lass. "I was happy for our guys."

UCSB will enter Tuesday's final round at 24-over par, tied with Southern Utah and seven shots back of Utah State.

Brandon Bueno, who has been really good, led the Gauchos at +1 after two rounds, two shots off the lead and within striking distance. Ethan Barnes, a freshman, is at +4 and five shots out of the lead. He is tied with Atthachun for 10th.

In addition to Bueno and Barnes, Andrew Ricci is tied for 16th at +9, Blake McGovern is tied for 22nd at +10, and John Bush is tied for 30th at +13.
