NORTHRIDGE, Calif.— No. 3 UC Santa Barbara men's volleyball earned its first road win of the season Friday night defeating CSUN in three straight sets 25-13, 25-18, 25-18. The Gauchos dominated both sides of the ball posting a .518 hitting percentage while holding the Matadors to just .143.

With this sweep the Gauchos improve to 6-4 overall with a 2-3 conference record while the Matadors fall to 1-2 in both categories.

Randy DeWeese had one of his most efficient matches of the season managing to lead all players in both kills and hitting with a 18-1-26 mark for a .654 percentage. He added a pair of blocks and four digs in the win.

Casey McGarry managed to lead the match in two categories as well collecting a near double-double with 35 assists and nine digs. He also had a pair of blocks.

The Gauchos came out hot in the first set posting an errorless .538 hitting percentage while holding CSUN to a dismal .037. Up 11-10 they would go on a terror notching 10-1 run that would lead them to a huge first set win.

Set two was a closer contest but once again UCSB held CSUN to a .185 percentage while posting a match-high 19 kills of its own on the opposite end. The two teams battled in the early points until the Gauchos started to pull away with a quick 4-1 run that gave them a 10-6 advantage. From there the nation's third-ranked team would not be caught coasting to a set two victory.

Set three saw yet another efficient offensive effort by the Gauchos who again reached a .538 mark with no errors. The Matadors fought with their backs against the wall but could not find a way out as UCSB scored in bunches, extending its lead to as much seven before ending the night with a set three win.

The Gauchos will now play host to the Matadors tomorrow night in Rob Gym. First serve is set for 4:00 PM.
