SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — The No. 3 UC Santa Barbara men's volleyball team earned a second consecutive sweep over CSUN Saturday at Rob Gym, 25-19, 25-17, 25-19.

The Gauchos are now 7-4 overall and 3-3 in Big West play. The Matadors fall to 1-3 in both categories.

Led by senior outside hitter Randy DeWeese's 20 kills on an efficient .471 hitting percentage, Santa Barbara outhit the Matadors .425 to .152. Senior outside hitter Roy McFarland ended the day with nine and eight kills, respectively.

Despite a slow start to the match, a timely 6-1 Gaucho run saw them take a 19-16 lead in the early going. UCSB's defense stifled CSUN down the stretch, finishing with a 5-1 advantage in blocks en route to a 25-19 opening game win.

The home side saw its momentum carry into set two, as it jumped out to a 16-7 lead. The defense once again shined, including the set-clincher which saw three consecutive Matador attempts get sent back to them, the last of which ended the set 25-17 courtesy of a block from DeWeese and fellow senior Keenan Sanders.

In the third and final set, UCSB remained in control, taking as large as a nine-point lead courtesy of yet another DeWeese kill. That made it 23-14, giving the Gauchos their largest lead of the day.

DeWeese nearly matched the entire Matador offense in the third set with nine kills to CSUN's 10. His final putaway awarded UCSB the 25-19 victory and gave him his third 20-kill match of the year.

Wilcox nearly recorded a double-double with his eight kills and team-high 12 digs, as did senior setter Casey McGarry with 40 assists and nine scoops.

DeWeese and Sanders tied for match-high honors with four blocks apiece.

The Gauchos will be back home for another match with No. 13 UC Irvine on Wednesday at 4:00 pm at Rob Gym.
