SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Junior Keith Moles, playing as an individual, shot a 5-under par 139 on Monday and is tied for third after two rounds of the UC Santa Barbara Collegiate at Sandpiper Golf Course.
As a team, the Gauchos are in sixth-place at +10, 21 shots off of the lead, which is held by Boise State at -11. Weber State is second (-6), Cal Baptist is third (-4), Utah State is fourth (+2) and Dixie State is fifth (+7).
After firing a 2-under 70 in the first round, Moles did himself one better in the second round, shooting a 3-under 69 to finish with a 139. He is tied with Boise's Max Charles for third. Isaac Buerger of Weber State leads the tournament with a -7, 137. Buerger carded a 7-under in the first round and came back to reality with an even-par 72 in the second round. Boise State's Hugo Townsend, who sits in second-place, was 5-under after the first 18 and 6-below par after the second round.
In addition to Moles, freshman Andrew Ricci is tied with Weber State's Hayden Banz for fifth-place at 4-under par. Ryan Fisher (Cal Baptist), Colten Cordingley (Utah State) and Blake Brothers (CSUN) are all tied for seventh at 3-under. The top-10 rounds out with a 1-under par trio in Aman Uddin (Dixie State), Jake Vincent (Southern Utah) and Josh Gliege (UC Riverside).
Moles was not the only UCSB player competing as an individual. Freshman Blake McGovern is tied for 15th with a two-round tally of +1, 145. Another Gaucho independent, Jacob Montes, is tied for 27th at 4-over par, and yet another, Rajvir Bedi, is tied for 33rd with a +5. Matt Moomjian, competing as part of the group that scores for Santa Barbara, is also tied for 33rd at 5-over par.
John Bush and Brando Bueno are tied for 37th at +6. The final Gaucho, Ethan Barnes, is tied for 46th at 9-over par.
The final round of the UC Santa Barbara Collegiate will be played on Tuesday, April 13 at 7:30 a.m., with all groups starting at the first hole.
