Box Score IRVINE, Calif.— No. 3 UC Santa Barbara men's volleyball earned its fourth straight win Friday night sweeping No. 14 UC Irvine 25-20, 25-14, 25-18.
The Gauchos now boast an overall record of 9-4 with a 4-3 conference mark, while the Anteaters fall to 2-10 and 2-6.
UCSB spread the love on the attack with Ryan Wilcox and Roy McFarland each collecting 10 kills, and Keenan Sanders and Randy DeWeese posting nine each. Sanders had a potent 9-0-15 line for a .600 hitting percentage and McFarland added eight digs.
Casey McGarry led the match with both 35 assists and nine digs.
The first set was the closest contest with UCSB leading through the middle points thanks to a .414 hitting percentage, but the Anteaters cut the lead to just two at 16-14. The Gauchos would end the set on a 3-0 run capped off by an ace by Sanders.
UCSB saw its highest mark in the second set posting a .432 hitting percentage while holding UCI to a match-low .000. The Gauchos finished off the set on a 6-1 run to claim it 25-14.
UCI battled in the third set but could not get out in front of the Gauchos who used another big run, this time a 10-4 run that carried them to their fifth sweep of the season.
The two teams will meet for the fifth and final time during the regular season tomorrow night in Irvine, Calif. with the match being aired live on ESPN3.
