IRVINE, Calif.— No. 3 UC Santa Barbara men's volleyball earned its fifth straight win Saturday sweeping No. 14 UC Irvine for the second straight night in three sets of 25-18, 25-19, 25-19.  The Gauchos will finish the regular season a perfect 5-0 against the Anteaters this year.

UCSB now owns a 10-4 overall record with a 5-3 Big West record while UCI falls to 2-11 and 2-6.

UCSB outhit UCI .295 to .204 but also found a significant amount of points at the service line collecting nine service aces and capitalizing on 13 errors by the 'Eaters. The nine aces are the second most by the Gauchos this season.

Senior hitter Roy McFarland led all players with 10 kills giving him his third straight double-digit performance, all of which came against UCI. Casey McGarry went for another double-double leading the match with both 33 assists and 10 digs.

Set one saw both teams hit its lowest percentage of the night with the Gauchos posting a .207 to the Anteaters' .167. It was all Irvine early with the host team going up 5-1, but UCSB quickly planted its feet racing out to a big lead thanks to a 9-0 run that made it 16-9. A UCI service error would grant the visitors the set 25-18.

The second game was a back-and-forth affair until the later points when the Gauchos parlayed a 6-1 run into a late 21-17 lead. UCSB had its best mark of the match notching 14 kills on a .345 clip and closed out the set on a 3-0 run to take it 25-19.

UCI experienced a bit of deja-vu in the next set dropping the final frame by the same score of 25-19. Tied at 10 apiece, UCSB combined a 4-0 run and a 4-1 run to take the match and ended the evening on a kill from Donovan Todorov.

The Gauchos will now head down to UC San Diego for a pair of matches next week, with the first coming on Thursday, April 14, at 5:00 PM.
