BERKELEY, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara men's water polo team (12-2) defeated 13th-ranked UC Irvine 15-8 on the opening day of the 2021 MPSF Invitational on Friday night at Legends Aquatic Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Gauchos and Anteaters were tied 4-4 after the first period, but the blue and gold followed it up with a 5-1 second quarter on two goals from Cole Brosnan, and one from each of John Rankin, Nathan Puentes, and Henry Allen.
- After the halftime break, the two teams went even against each other again in the third quarter, 2-2, but UCSB ran away with the game on a 4-1 fourth frame to win 15-8.
- Cole Brosnan went on to lead the team in goals for the contest, scoring four.
UP NEXT
The Gauchos face No. 3 Stanford at Spieker Aquatics Complex on Saturday morning at 9:20 a.m. If UCSB wins, it will play second-ranked USC later in the afternoon. If it does not win, it will take on No. 7 UC Davis. Live stats for both matchups will be available on UCSBGauchos.com.
