BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Oct. 2, 2022) – The UC Santa Barbara women's soccer team has one last road game before getting back to Harder Stadium. In today's Big West game, the Gauchos will take on the Roadrunners of Cal State Bakersfield.
LAST TIME OUT
The Gauchos had another strong performance as they earned their first Big West victory of the season. UC Santa Barbara took on the Matadors of Cal State Northridge, who were both vying for their first conference win. After Gia Cimring and Meg Burling found the back of the net, the Gauchos came out with the 2-0 win along with their second straight shutout.
ROUDNING UP THE ROADRUNNERS
Cal State Bakersfield is coming off a big win over Cal Poly, defeating the Mustangs 3-1 on their home field with two goals from Kalea Eichenberger and one goal Catalina Roggerone. With those two goals, Eichenberger now leads the Roadrunners in goals with four and is tied for the most points this season with nine.
CSU Bakersfield's goalkeeper, Hollee Hercik, is keeping her team in the game. She is 33rd in the NCAA and second in the Big West in total saves, contributing 53 so far this season. Along with that, the junior has a 2.030 goals-against average and .716 save percentage.
There are only three athletes who started all 12 games for the Roadrunners and they are all underclassmen: freshmen Catalina Roggerone and Jette Zimmer and sophomore Penny Smith. This team only has one senior, Rhyan Acosta, who has appeared in every game this season.
The Roadrunners are coached by Sebastian Vecchio, who is in his fifth season with the program. This first-time head coach currently has a 22-39-8 record with the program.
