SANTA BARBARA, Calif.- The UCSBwelcomed alumni back to Campus Pool as the women's swim team (1-0) fell to No. 20 UCLA 150-112 on Friday in their second home dual meet of the season. UCLA proved to be a worthy opponent, winning nine of the 14 events.
Despite the loss, the Gauchos still had stand out performances including with all the first-place finishes coming from the freshmen class. Samantha Banos was victorious in the 200 Free (1:50.62) and 100 Fly(55.39). Hazel Derr collected wins in the 100 Back (56.06) and 200 Back (2:02.52). Silvia Faraboschi took first in the 200 Breast (2:20.61).
Additionally, there were many second and third place finishes. Banos finished second in the 200 Fly(2:01.39). Nina Statler was hot on Derr's heels, finishing second in the 100 Back (56.13) while Kate Nugent followed Faraboschi closely, claiming the second spot in the 200 Breast(2:21.19). Ashley Ray finished second in the 100 Breast (1:03.91). Isabella Martinez-Spencer took second in the 500 Free(5:01.31) and 1000 Free (10:14.71).
Reagan Nibarger and Maelynn Lawrence also contributed third-place finishes in the 100 Free(52.54) and the 1000 Free (10:28.47), respectively.
On the relays, UCSB finished second in the 200 Free Relay(1:36.10) and third in the 400 Medley Relay(3:47.88). The 200 Free Relay team consisted of Ray, Hannah Joseph, Nibarger, and Statler. Ray and Statler also swam the 400 Medley Relay along with Derr and Banos.
Next up, UCSB men's and women's swim will travel to Pepperdine to take on UC San Diego and Pepperdine on Saturday, November 5. Swimming will commence at 11am.
