Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Nearly the entire UC Santa Barbara women's basketball roster saw the Thunderdome floor again on Wednesday, as the Gauchos easily won their second straight game 102-42 over Cal Lutheran.
ON THE STAT SHEET
- UCSB (7-3) crossed the century mark for the second time this season after shooting a season-best 54.5 percent from the field. That mark was thanks in large part to centers Laurel Rockwood and Ila Lane. Rockwood had a career day shooting 8-for-11 with 18 points and 12 rebounds for her first career double-double. Lane dominated in her short time on the court, scoring eight on 4-of-5 from the field.
- Also recording her first double-double of the season was forward Alexis Whitfield, who did most of her damage in the first half on her way to a 15-point, 10-rebound day.
- The Gauchos also recorded a season-best 31 assists on 42 made shots. Senior Taylor Mole set her new career-high of six before the halftime buzzer sounded. Whitfield and freshman Skylar Burke both finished with five.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Santa Barbara scored at will from the opening tip. After missing their first shot, the Gauchos connected on six straight attempts, with every starter making a shot as they jumped out to a 13-3 lead.
- Breaking down the Regals' (5-2) full-court defense with ease, the home side grew the lead with another 10-0 first quarter run and would push it to 30 points midway through the second.
- The second proved to be the Gauchos' best quarter, as they outscored Cal Lutheran by 22 points while shooting 66.7 percent from the field and 4-of-9 on threes. Continuing to shoot with confidence, Jessica Grant knocked down two of her three triples as UCSB went into halftime up 61-17. The 61 points tied for the second-highest first half total in program history.
- It was more of the same in the second half, as every Gaucho that saw the court would make at least one field goal. Freshman Kathleen Hutchens went 2-of-2 on threes for her first buckets as a Gaucho. Joining her in setting new career scoring-highs were Rockwood (18 points), Whitfield (15), Grant (13) and Burke (9).
