Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif.— No. 25 UCSB Baseball opened up conference play with a 3-1 win over Cal State Fullerton Friday night. The Gauchos have now won six straight games.
On the Stat Sheet
- Cory Lewis (3-0) earned the start tossing 5.2 innings of two-hit, scoreless ball to go along with 10 strikeouts falling just one short of his career-high.
- In his relief came Michael Rice who tossed 2.1 innings with none earned and four Ks and closing out the night was once again Ryan Harvey who picked up his fifth straight save in as many games.
- Five different Gauchos accounted for the team's five hits including Kyle Johnson and Jason Williow who each had home runs in the same inning.
How It Happened
- The game was quiet through the early innings as the Gauchos failed to get a runner aboard until the bottom of the fifth when Johnson crushed a 2-2 ball over the right field wall to give UCSB the 1-0 lead.
- The next man up was Christian Kirtley roping a single to center and bringing him home was Willow who crushed a huge homer on a 3-0 count that cleared the net in left field to extend the lead to 3-0.
- The Titans brought a runner into scoring position in five straight innings, but Lewis continued to fan batters and keep Cal State Fullerton off the scoreboard.
- CSF found its lone run in the top of the eighth, but could not get past Harvey who entered in the 9th to pitch another clean sheet and pick up the save.
