SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The No. 57 UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team shut out No. 74 UC Irvine 4-0 Sunday afternoon for their third consecutive shutout, securing a 10-0 home record in their first season at the new Arnhold Tennis Center. The win for the Gauchos (14-5, 3-1) marked their eighth win in their last nine matches, a stretch that has included five shutouts. Following the match, Santa Barbara honored its four seniors Victor Krustev, Stefano Tsorotiotis, Alejandro Vedri, and Jonathan Zhang with a senior day ceremony.
How it Happened
- The Gauchos won a nail-biter of a doubles point to get the match started on the right foot. On court two, Pablo Masjuan and Kai Brady earned a 6-2 win over Ali Amiri and Riccardo Roberto
- On court one, Anteaters Emmanuel Coste and Noah Zamora jumped out to an early lead, winning the first three sets and eventually gaining a 5-2 lead. However, Gauchos Phillip Jordan and Krustev came back, tying things up at 5-5 while Gianluca Brunkow and Tsorotiotis were battling on court three
- Brunkow and Tsorotiotis, engaged in a back-and-forth affair, were able to pull off a 7-6(4) win in the tiebreaker to clinch the doubles point for Santa Barbara
- Moving into singles, Brunkow quickly earned the Gauchos' second point with a 6-1, 7-5 defeat of Matthew Sah on court six
- Jordan toppled No. 75-ranked Coste 6-1, 6-4 on court one to make it 3-0 in favor of UCSB
- Vedri completed a storybook ending to his final home match as a Gaucho, clinching the match with a comeback 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 win over Mike Mkrtchian on court five
