Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif.— No. 13 UCSB (25-9, 14-2) picked up its 25th win of the season Friday night taking game one of its series with Long Beach State 14-4.
On the Stat Sheet
- Cory Lewis (6-0) saw his best start in the last few weeks tossing 7.2 innings of two-hit, two-run ball to go along with eight strikeouts. He held took a perfect game into the top of the fifth.
- UCSB out hit LBSU 12-3 posting three triples and three doubles.
- Jordan Sprinkle was a homer shy of the cycle going 3-for-3 with a triple, a double, a walk and three runs.
- Nick Vogt went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs, and an RBI.
- Christian Kirtley and Kyle Johnson each saw three RBI.
How It Happened
- The Gauchos hung a six in the bottom of the second thanks to a two-out rally as Nick Oakley tripled deep to right center to score a pair and then trotted the final 90 feet on a Dirtbag error to give UCSB a 3-0 lead. Then a Sprinkle triple, a Blake Klassen HBP, and a Willits walk loaded the bases for Kirtley who cleared them with a three-RBI double to double the lead to 6-0.
- Three more scored in the bottom of the fourth on a pair of HBP and medley of Long Beach miscues. Johnson collected a sac-fly to score Blake Klassen and make it a 9-0 Gaucho lead.
- Lewis' perfect game came to an end in the fifth as the Dirtbags homered and scored another run to get on the board and cut the lead 9-2.
- The third crooked number came in the sixth as UCSB added a five-spot ignited by Johnson's bases-loaded single through the infield that scored a pair. Nick Vogt followed with an RBI single to extend his hit streak and John Newman Jr. capped off the scoring efforts of the night with a two-RBI triple to make it 14-2.
- Elliot Gallegos held the Dirtbags at bay recording the final four outs and give UCSB game one of the series.

UCSB will look to take the series tomorrow in game two at Caesar Uyesaka as Michael Gutierrez is set to take the bump. First pitch is set for 2 PM.
