RIVERSIDE, Calif.- The UC Santa Barbara women's (5-1) and men's (4-0) swim teams swept Cal Baptist in their first dual match of 2023. The final scores were 180-79 for the women and 163-96 for the men.
The women started with a win in the 200 Medley Relay. Swam by Nina Statler, Ashley Ray, Tyryn Empremsilapa, and Reagan Nibarger, the group touched in at 1:44.91. Ray also took first place in the 50 Free (24.32) and the 200 Breast (2:19.20).
Other first place finishes include Samantha Banos in the 200 Free (1:52.56), 100 Fly (56.51), and 200 Fly (2:02.41). Freshman Silvia Faraboschi recorded her first win in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:05.76. Hannah Joseph and Kristin Bartlett were victorious in the 100 Free (52.10) and 200 Back (2:07.62) respectively.
On the distance side, Isabella Martinez-Spencer took first in the 1000 Free (10:26.00) and Annie Andres for the 500 Free (5:08.48).
The men won both the 200 Medley Relay and the 200 Free Relay. The 200 Medley was swam by Matthew Driscoll, Alex Cullen, Justin Wong, and Sean Gutowski, while the 200 Free team consisted of Driscoll, Wong, Henry Adamson, and Kyle Brill. Driscoll also won the 100 Back (50.86); Cullen finished first in the 100 (55.77) and 200 (2:01.19) Breast, and Brill was the victor in the 200 Back (1:49.27).
Additionally, Austin Sparrow finished first in the 200 Free (1:41.40), Dominic Falcon won the 200 Fly (1:49.42).
Next up, the Gauchos will travel north to take on UC Davis on Friday, January 20. Swimming will commence at 3:00 PM.
