Stockton, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara men's (5-0) and women's (6-2) swim dominated against the Pacific Tigers in a dual meet on Saturday. The final score for the men was 193-68 and the women's score was 183-76.
Both men and women took the 200 Free and 200 Medley Relays. The long distance events were also quite successful for the Gauchos with the men taking the top four spots in the 500 Free and top three in the 1000 Free. The women also claimed the top three spots in the 1000 Free, 200 Free, and 50 Free.
For the women's squad, freshman Samantha Banos continues to dominate, placing first in all her events: 50 Free (23.78), 100 Fly (55.39), and 200 IM (2:05.7). Other first place finishes include: Annie Andres (1000 Free, 10:28.9), Michelle Tekawy in the 200 Free (1:55.44), Ashley Ray (100 Breast, 1:04.48), Maelynn Lawrence in the 200 Fly (2:03.16), Kristin Bartlett (200 Back, 2:04.97), Katie Nugent for 200 Breast (2:21.13).
Rounding out the effort for the women, second-place finishes came from Cami Collins, Gillian Flath, Silvia Faraboschi with two, Reagan Nibarger, and Hannah Joseph. Additionally, third place finishes came from Sophia Ryan, who had two, Alyssa Lund, Paige Gambetta, Amelia Hammer, and Tyryn Empremsilapa.
On the men's side, UCSB won every event save for one. Matthew Driscoll took first in the 100 (49.28) and 200 Back (1:50.09) while it was Alec Cullen for the 100 (55.52) and 200 Breast (2:00.01). Matt Vinh went the distance, taking the 500 (4:34.59) and 1000 (9:30.16) Free. Other first place finishes came from Austin Sparrow in the 200 Free (1:39.33), Justin Wong (200 Fly, 1:53.18), Sean Gutowski in the 50 Free (20.56), Zachary Tamusaitis (100 Fly, 49.00), and Kyle Brill in the 200 IM (1:49.95).
Second place finishes came from Kennan Hotchkiss, Dominic Falcon, Corban McIntosh with two, Billy Picht, and Connor Martilla who also had two third-place finishes.
UCSB will return to competition next weekend at UNLV from January 27-28 to take on the Rebels as well as the Wyoming Cowboys & Cowgirls.
