STOCKTON, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Golf team competed in their final tournament of the fall season as they made their way north for the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational hosted by the University of the Pacific. Following three rounds of golf across three days, the Gauchos found themselves in ninth place out of 17 teams.
"Overall, this was a good way to end our fall schedule," said Head Coach
Chris Massoletti. "I feel like we kept learning from our mistakes from prior events and continued to improve. We still have long ways to go, but this gives us some good momentum heading into the off season as we look to improve our weaknesses and sharpen our strengths."
The Gauchos had their best tournament of the fall season. Santa Barbara was led by freshman
Nick Waldock yet again, who put up a score of 68 in the first round. He followed that up with a score of 70 for the next two days to end the tournament eight-under. This was good enough for him to finish in 12th out of 99 golfers in just the second tournament of his career.
"I am really proud of how Nick bounced back after missing the first tournament and used that motivation to propel his game," Massoletti said. "His two college starts led to two Top 15 finishes, which is tremendous."
Following up behind him on the individual leaderboard was
Blake McGovern. He had a very consistent tournament, hitting par on the first two days before going one-under on Day Three. This was good enough for him to jump three spots in the standings and end the tournament tied for 36th.
Rajvir Bedi was close behind, contributing his lowest round of the tournament on Day 1 with a 69. He followed that up with rounds of 75 and 72 to go even for the tournament as he finished tied for 41st.
Josh Chung also competed for the Gauchos in this tournament. He contributed his lowest round of the tournament on the final day, going two-under to help the Gauchos jump two spots in the standings.
Julian Maxwell also competed for the Gauchos in this tournament. His best round came on Day Two when he put up a score of 75 to move himself up the standings three spots.
Matt Monheim also competed in this tournament as an individual. He started the tournament off strong with rounds of 73 and 70 before ending the tournament on a 81.
The Gauchos wrapped up their fall season with this tournament. Their spring schedule will be released in the coming weeks.
