Gauchos Open Final Road Trip with 1-0 Loss to Hawai'i

MANOA, Hawai'i - The UC Santa Barbara Women's Soccer team dropped their road contest Thursday night against Hawai'i. A 76th-minute goal proved to be the difference in the match.

The Rainbow Wahine gained the opening possession, but UC Santa Barbara would eventually gain control and play their possession-oriented style of play. After gaining possession the Gauchos were able to record four corner kicks in the first half but could not convert on the attempts.

A tightly contested first half resulted in just one shot on goal between the two teams. A save by Taylor Little in the 39th minute on a shot from outside the box kept the game tied.

Coming out of halftime both teams turned up the intensity. Hawai'i recorded two shots while the Gauchos were awarded three corner kicks in the first 15 minutes of the second half. The defenses would hold strong not allowing the scoreless tie to break.

In the 76th minute, the Rainbow Wahine broke the scoreless tie with a goal to the bottom center of the goal off the right foot from Cate Sheahan.

The Gauchos nearly tied the game up in the 85th minute on a shot from Shaye Douglas. Her shot to the top center of the net would be saved and the Gauchos would be turned away again.

The lone 76th-minute goal would hold and be the difference in the match.

UC Santa Barbara will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 22 as they take on UC Davis in Davis, Calif. Kickoff is set for noon. For those unable to make the trip the match will be streamed through ESPN+ with live stats available through ucdavisaggies.com.
