AKRON, OH: Day Three at the Zippy Invite has arrived, and the Gauchos are still riding the wave of success with impressive victories and record-breaking performances. Throughout the day's ten individual events, the men's and women's teams secured eight top-three victories and one relay win. At the end of today's events, both the men's and women's teams remain in second place, with the men's team earning a score of 1289.5, and the women's team earning a total of 1214 points.
The junior squad dominated the day, with Kyle Brill, Austin Sparrow, and Matthew Driscoll each clinching first-place victories for the Gauchos. Brill took gold in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 3:47.89. Sparrow showcased his classic speed in the 200-yard freestyle where he outpaced the competition with a swift finish of 1:35.26. Matthew Driscoll found his first-place success in the 100-yard backstroke (46.31), not only securing a victory but also breaking Akron's meet and pool record for the event.
Three Gauchos are also leaving today's events with a silver victory. Zachary Tamusaitis was the first of this wave, taking second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 47.26. Taber daCosta also claimed silver, earning second place in the 400-yard individual medley with an impressive time of 3:48.27. Adding to the excitement, Ashley Ray joined the ranks, securing second place in the women's 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.47.
Senior Paige Gambetta and Sophomore Henry Adamson also earned a top-three finish for Santa Barbara today. Gambetta claimed the third spot in the women's 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.47, while Adamson earned bronze in the men's 100-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 52.76.
As for today's relays, only one race occurred, the 200-yard freestyle, where the men's team consisting of Austin Sparrow, Henry Adamson, Zachary Tamusaitis, and Matthew Driscoll took second place with a time of 1:18.84.
