Gauchos Set New Record In Win Over Bethesda

UC Santa Barbara Men's Basketball defeated Bethesda University 126-76.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Men's Basketball team (5-3) were back in at The Thunderdome today as they hosted Bethesda University. By the time the game ended, the Gauchos set a new record for the most points scored in a game as they took down Bethesda 126-76.

"I think our guys were really unselfish tonight with 27 assists and only eight turnovers. Turnovers have been a problem for us. Ariel Bland had a triple-double and I have never been a part of one, so kudos to him. He has worked really hard on his game."
 
"For us, it has been about defense. We haven't had a lot of continuity because on injuries. For us, we have to improve on a daily basis with our defense. That will be the determining factor for us and where this team can go."
 
LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS
  • Ariel Bland hit a new milestone today as he became the first Gaucho to record a triple-double since Coach Pasternack has taken over the program. He finished the game with 13 rebounds, 12 points and 10 assists.
  • Ajay Mitchell hit a new career milestone as he has reached 1,000 career points. He scored 12 points while making five-of-six shots from the field.
  • Cole Anderson led all the Gauchos on the court in points. He finished with 20 points while shooting at 61.5 percent.
  • Gage Gomez came off the bench and had a great outing for UC Santa Barbara. He contributed 11 points while being second on the team in assists with five.
  • Along with those four Gauchos, Evans Kipruto, Matija Belic and Kilian Brockhoff all had double-digit points. All three of them finished the game with 14 points each.
  • In the nine minutes he played in today's game, Konner Baroni recorded nine points while adding on eight rebounds.   
UP NEXT
The Gauchos will make the trip to Phoenix as they participate in the Jerry Colangelo Classic. This year, they will take on Loyola Marymount at the Footprint Center. This game will take place on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 1:30 p.m. PT. For those who can't make the trip, they can watch all of the action on ESPN+.
