IRVINE, Calif. (Feb. 26, 2023) — The 15th-ranked UC Santa Barbara women's water polo team (13-5, 0-0 Big West) went head-to-head with No. 5 Hawai'i (11-2, 0-0 Big West) Sunday for fifth place at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational. Four Gauchos were able to garner points against the Rainbow Wahine, each clocking in a goal towards the total, but it was the team from the islands who won the match.

The start of the match saw a strong offensive effort from UCSB. With all four of the Gaucho goals scored before the first quarter buzzer, the Gauchos kept stride with the Rainbow Wahine early in the game. However, Hawai'i was able to pull away as the game progressed.
Sunday's results leaves UCSB's record at 13-5 with the regular season set to begin in March. The Gauchos have one more tournament to continue building their record before they enter Big West conference play.

The Gauchos meet Pomona-Pitzer in the Convergence Tournament this coming weekend. UCSB will hit the water at 12:30 on March 3rd at Pomona-Pitzer's Haldeman Pool in Claremont, California.
