LA JOLLA, Calif. (Feb. 3, 2023) – The No. 16 UC Santa Barbara women's water polo team came out swinging against No.13 Indiana in their first match of UC San Diego's Triton Invitational on Friday. Three Gauchos provided a pair of goals each, with Juju Amaral adding an assist to lead the team in points (3).
UCSB is 8-3 at this point in the season, and looking to continue forward strong throughout the tournament, with more games to follow on Saturday and Sunday. Indiana is now 7-2.

The matchup against the Hoosiers saw a very tight scoreboard from the first quarter to the last. Juju Amaral managed to get the game rolling for the Gauchos with a goal in the first quarter, and followed it up with another dunk in the third. Amaral would be one of a trio of Gauchos to slam goals on the board, with teammates Caitlyn Snyder, and Cami Mras all adding two points each to the count for UCSB.
Throughout the game, the score remained close, never breaching more than a two-point differential between the two teams. But, despite a fierce match, the Gauchos ultimately fell to the Hoosiers with the scoreboard reading 7-6 in favor of Indiana when the final buzzer rang.
UP NEXT
UC Santa Barbara is back in the pool Saturday, February 4 to take on Concordia (Irvine) in their first of two matches on the day. The Gauchos and Golden Eagles will square off at 9 a.m. from Canyonview Aquatic Center in La Jolla. UCSB's second opponent of the day will be determined by the results of that and other games.
