LAS VEGAS, Nev.: After an exhilarating first day of competition, Gaucho Swim participated in a total of 16 events. Currently, the men's team is leading against the University of Wyoming 93-54, but they are trailing UNLV 103-44. Meanwhile, the women's team is trailing both Wyoming (96-52) and UNLV (114-34).
Individual Wins:Â
The Gauchos celebrated several notable individual victories throughout the evening. The top three finishes started with Junior Taber Dacosta, when he demonstrated exceptional skill and endurance in the Men's 1650 freestyle, securing an impressive first-place finish with a time of 15:26.49. Both Santa Barbara teams secured victories in the 100-yard backstroke. Hazel Derr earned a strong second place with a swift time of 55.05 for the women's team, while Matt Driscoll secured the backstroke win for the men's team, finishing second with a time of 48.46. The Women's 100-yard breaststroke witnessed a commendable third-place finish by Ashley Ray, who completed the race in 1:02.81. Henry Adamson showcased his strength in the Men's 100-yard breaststroke, securing a notable second place with a time of 54.68. Samantha Banos demonstrated her classic finesse in the Women's 200-yard butterfly, earning a second-place finish with a time of 1:59.61, while Kyle Brill exhibited versatility and skill in the Men's 200 Individual Medley, claiming second place with a time of 1:49.14.Â
Relay Wins:Â
As for the relays, Santa Barbara secured three notable victories, earning medals in both the men's 200 and 400-yard freestyle relay races and the women's team in the 200-yard freestyle relay. In the Women's 200-yard freestyle relay, the team composed of Hazel Derr, Hannah Joseph, Gretta Callison, and Ashley Ray secured a commendable third place, finishing with an impressive time of 1:33.26. The Men's 200 freestyle also had a strong performance, with the team made up of Austin Sparrow, Henry Adamson, Zachary Tamusaitis, and Matt Driscoll clinching a second-place finish in a swift 1:19.74. The Men's 400-yard relay saw the quartet of Matt Driscoll, Henry Adamson, Zachary Tamusaitis, and Austin Sparrow claiming a well-deserved second place, completing the relay in 3:13.61.Â
