Women's Volleyball Takes Down Titans In Four Sets

UC Santa Barbara Women's Volleyball defeated Cal State Fullerton in Titan Gym.

FULLERTON, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Women's Volleyball team (7-10) were back on the road after spending a weekend in The Thunderdome. They kicked off this Orange County road trip by taking on the Titans of Cal State Fullerton. By the end of four sets, it was the Gauchos who came out with the win with scores of 25-23, 18-25, 25-18 and 25-16.

FROM HEAD COACH MATT JONES
"Overall, it was a fairly solid defensive effort. It took us too long to build a serve receive rhythm, but once we ironed that out, it was smooth sailing."

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set was an even battle between the Gauchos and the Titans as no one could get ahead of the other. These two teams tied up the match 10 times before anyone could pull ahead. It took until the last two points for a winner to be decided as Eva Travis slammed down the last ball of the set to push the Gauchos past the Titans with a score of 25-23.

Cal State Fullerton woke up during this second set. The Titans went on a nine-point run to start off the second set, going up 10-1 over the Gauchos. Even though Emma McDermott and Sophie Reavis tried to bring the Gauchos back in this set, it wasn't enough as UC Santa Barbara lost this second set 25-18.

From there, the Blue and Gold lit up. Over the course of the next two sets, the Gauchos took control. With the help of Andi Kreiling and Eva Travis on offense, UC Santa Barbara kept their space from the Titans as the Gauchos won the final two sets with scores of 25-18 and 25-16.
