SPOKANE, Wash.- Gaucho alum Stacy Clinesmith was inducted into the Northwest Sports Hall of Fame on Tuesday, Oct. 15 for her accomplishments and contributions to women's basketball. Clinesmith was a member of the UC Santa Barbara Women's Basketball team from 1996 to 2000.
Clinesmith came to Santa Barbara from Spokane as a standout recruit earning her high school league's player of the year twice. During her four year tenure with the Blue and Gold, Clinesmith achieved 1,565 points, the sixth most in school history. She also holds the second most three-point field goals achieved in a Gaucho career at 227. She holds both the first and second rank for freshman single-game record for assists, recording 11 vs Wisconsin and nine vs Cal Poly in 1996.
Clinesmith led the Gauchos to a Big West Championship title all four years. In the 2000 Big West Tournament, she put up a total of 36 points in the matchup with Long Beach State, the most of any Gaucho in tournament history. She was recognized for her contributions achieving First Team All-Big West three years in a row.
After Santa Barbara, Clineman joined the Sacramento Monarchs as a second-round pick in the 2000 WNBA draft. In 2014, she transitioned to coaching in her hometown. Clinesmith now serves as an assistant coach for the Gonzaga Women's Basketball team. During her 11 years with Gonzaga, the Bulldogs have won five West Coast Conference championship titles and eight regular season titles. In the 2023-24 season, Clinesmith mentored the team as they earned a Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA tournament.
Clinesmith joins fellow stellar athletes and coaches in the Inland Northwest Sports Hall of Fame. She was selected by a board of Spokane Sports Commission board members, community members and sportswriters. Hall of Fame memorabilia can be found at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.
