KAUAI, Hawai'i – The UC Santa Barbara Golf team competed in their second tournament of the spring season at the 47th annual John Burns Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Hawai'i. This was one of the toughest fields the Gauchos competed in as they took 19th out of 20 teams. Individually,
Nick Waldock had the best performance for the Gauchos, finishing tied for 36th.
The best day for the Gauchos came on Day 1 as the team put up a score of 295. Individually, it was Waldock and
Brian Arnold who went one under in this opening round. Those two continued to lead the Gauchos on the second day of the tournament as both Waldock and Arnold put up a score of 74, which moved them up to being tied for 31st in the standings. By the end, Waldock remained in the top spot and had the best finish of the day for the Gauchos with a score of 73.
The University of Arizona finished the tournament in sole possession of first place with a team score of 844. Individually, New Mexico's Bastien Amat finished in first place, going 13 under with scores of 69, 70 and 64.
The Gauchos will have a very quick turnaround before their next tournament as they head right to Indian Wells, California for the Wyoming Match Play. UC Santa Barbara is the eighth seed heading into this event, taking on the No. 1 Cal State Fullerton Titans in the first round.
