Bedi Finishes In Seventh At Saticoy Showdown

UC Santa Barbara Golf earned a third-place finish at the Saticoy Showdown hosted by Pepperdine University.

SOMIS, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Golf team had a quick turnaround after their second-place finish at the Jackrabbit Invitational. They made the quick trip down the 10 for the Saticoy Showdown hosted by Pepperdine University. By the end of the one-day tournament at The Saticoy Club, the Gauchos finished in third out of six teams while Rajvir Bedi had the best individual performance for the team.

"It's always fun to be able to compete in your own backyard," said Head Coach Chris Massoletti. "Saticoy is such a great test of golf and really exposes your weaknesses. The guys did a good job of battling all day, but we ran out of steam late in the round. We had a couple of last-minute lineup changes because of illness so I am proud of how the team handled those changes."

UC Santa Barbara played two rounds down at Saticoy. This course was difficult for all the competitors today, but some of the Gauchos found great success. The first round started as early as 8:25 a.m. for UC Santa Barbara as the team went through the 18-hole course for the first time. Brian Arnold had the lowest round of the day for the Blue and Gold as he shot a 71 through the first 18. Once the Gauchos went through for the second time, it was freshman Will Hoff who produced the lowest round as he contributed a 74.

When looking at the standings, Bedi had the best overall performance for the Gauchos. He contributed a 75 in both rounds of the tournament to earn the highest place for UC Santa Barbara as he was tied for seventh. Arnold and Hoff were the next-best Gauchos as they both finished the tournament tied for 11th, just two strokes behind Bedi.

Host Pepperdine University came home with the win today as they put up the lowest score through two rounds with a 742. The Waves also had the best individual performer of the day in Kris Kuvaas, who was the only golfer to finish under par today.

The Gauchos will take the next two weeks to prepare before heading to San Diego to compete in the Torrey Pines Invitational hosted by Big West opponent UC San Diego from March 24 through March 26.
