Simmons Grabs Top 30 Finish at Riverside Invite, Five Others Earn Top 100

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Men's and Women's UC Santa Barbara Cross Country teams competed in their second meet after making their 2024-2025 season debut at Big Bear three weeks prior. The Gauchos faced off against dozens of other schools, including a familiar face in host UC Riverside, during the women's 6K and the men's 8K.

For the women, sophomore Lindsey Reed led the way for Santa Barbara with a time of 21:08.5 and placing 60th overall. The next three Gauchos to cross the finish line placed in the top 100, with Jana Barron coming in at 21:08.5, Ava Maier at 21:24.6, and Leah Mendibles at 21:34.1.

On the men's side, Parker Simmons shined placing 27th overall with a blazing time of 24:00.6, leading the way for UC Santa Barbara. Zachary Parker finished next behind Simmons with a time of 24:26.3 and placed 69th, being the only other Gaucho to finish in the top 100.

Santa Barbara will have just one week of preparation for their first out-of-state meet of the season, which will occur Sept. 28 at the Chile Pepper Festival hosted by the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville, Arkansas The men will begin racing at 8:30 a.m. PT while the women prepare to hit the ground running at 9:10 a.m. PT.
