Gauchos Fall to Bruins and Utes

| By:

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – UC Santa Barbara Men's and Women's Swim faced UCLA and Utah after a successful previous day against BYU. The Gauchos did not end their road trip on top as both teams ended the dual meet in third place. Second place UCLA outpaced Santa Barbara 185 to 103, with the hosting Utes taking first (209-91).

FROM HEAD COACH JACLYN ROSEN
"A weekend of swimming at altitude tested our toughness—we swam strong and fought hard against the competition," said Rosen. The highlight of our weekend was our women's team taking down BYU in some very close races."

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gauchos won seven events against their pair of Power Four opponents. Banos found herself in familiar territory, winning the 100 and 200-yard butterfly (55.71; 2:03.76). The junior has been an ace in the butterfly all season. She also tacked on a victory in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.62). Kyle Brill is another Gaucho who has dominated in a particular event – he added yet another 200-yard IM victory to his resume (1:50.90) and took the 200-yard breaststroke too (2:03.48). Matt Driscoll added his name to a pair of first-place finishes as well. He won the 100-yard backstroke (49.68) and swam in the first position in the 200-yard medley relay (1:30.98 with Brill, Wong, and Tamusaitis).
