The Blue and Gold will head to Marine Stadium in Long Beach California this weekend to compete in the third ever Mountain Pacific Sports Federation: Open Water Championships. This will be a one day event taking place on Oct. 18.There will be nearly 200 athletes competing in this event from over 20 different universities.
Saturday's schedule will consist of four events beginning at 9:00am with the Men's 5K. The Women's 5K will begin at 10:30am.Top Three Collegiate finishers in the men's and women's 5K race will automatically qualify for the 5K USA Swimming Open Water Championship as well as CSCAA Nationals in December.
There will be a brief break for youth events before the relay events get underway at 1:45 and 2:15. Relays will be made up of four swimmers on each team, with each leg of the relay having a 500 meter swim.
The Gauchos will be sending three swimmers south this weekend: Freshmen Chloe Eyrich and Freshmen Lelia Symington for the women's team. Senior Connor Martilla will represent the Men's team in Long Beach this weekend.
A Look Ahead
After this weekend, the Gauchos will be off until Oct. 31 off. Following the week off the Blue and Gold will be competing in the CBU Invite along with San Diego State, the University of Denver, and Cal Baptiste hosts their invitational from Oct. 31. - Nov 1.
