Gauchos Back in Action at Cal Baptist Invite

Riverside, Calif. – This weekend, UC Santa Barbara Swim will visit Riverside for the Cal Baptist Invitational, where they will compete against the Lancers in addition to the University of Denver and San Diego State. The events will take place on Friday, Oct. 31 and Saturday, Nov. 1. Friday's action will start at 4:00 p.m., while Saturday will feature two sessions, starting at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Last Time Out
Most of the Gauchos have had nearly two weeks off from competition since their last meet, UC San Diego's Triton Invite on Oct. 10 and 11.  The Women's team placed fourth and the Men's team placed fifth. Overall, the Blue and Gold placed fourth out of five teams in La Jolla two weekends ago. Highlighted by Samantha Banos season best time in the 200 fly, with a time of 1:57.88 Banos was able to hold off 2024 Olympic Silver Medalist Claire Weinstein from Cal.
Three individual Gauchos traveled to Long Beach on Oct. 18 for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Open Water Championships during the break. Connor Martilla placed fourth out of 33 swimmers with a strong showing away from home in the Men's 5k Open Water Championships.
This weekend, two-time 2025 Big West Athlete of the Week Samantha Banos and the team will look to continue their hot start to the season at the Cal Baptist Invitational during their return to the water.
Look Ahead
After battling it out in Riverside at Cal Baptist, the Gauchos will head to their next meet on Nov 14. Next, the Gauchos will prepare to travel down the coast next week to Malibu, Calif. for a three-team meet between host Pepperdine, Santa Barbara, and UC San Diego.
