Gauchos Complete Saint Mary's Invitational, Wrap Up Fall Slate

SEASIDE, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Golf team finished the fall portion of its season on Wednesday afternoon after competing in the Saint Mary's Invitational. The Gauchos posted their lowest round of the tournament on their final day,
 
ROUND ONE
The Gauchos went out and fired an opening round 297 (+9). Jack Watters led the way with a two-under 70 with four birdies on the scorecard. After day one Watters was sitting in a top 10 position. Following behind him was Nick Waldock and Zach Schwab who each shot a three-over 75 to sit in a tie for 50th.
 
ROUND TWO
The Gauchos were certainly consistent as they shot another 297 on day two of the tournament. Jack Watters continued to lead the group as he finished with a one-over 73, falling to 15th on the leaderboard. Waldock and Dylan Ma had a better round two with a two-over 74 for each of them. Waldock moved up slightly in the leaderboard while Ma jumped 12 positions.
 
ROUND THREE
The Gauchos saved their best round for last as they finished with a 285 (-3) on the day. The three-under round was the fourth best on the day. Ryan Gay made a huge jump in the leaderboard after firing a three-under 69 with four birdies. Waldock and Ma again climbed up the leaderboards after both of them fired a two-under 70. The duo combined for nine birdies (four from Waldock and five from Ma).
 
NOTEABLES
  • The Gauchos played the par fives 18-under on the week, the fourth best in the field.
  • UC Santa Barbara also finished with the fifth most birdies in the event with 48.
  • Jack Watters played the par fives six-under under on the week, a tied for fourth best.
 
UP NEXT
The Gauchos will now begin to prepare for their spring season over the next four months. UC Santa Barbara will begin their spring slate at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert on Feb. 23 through the 25.
