LA JOLLA, Calif. – The doubles pairing of
My-Anh Holmes and
Raphaelle Leroux brought home The Big West Fall Invite Doubles Championship for the UC Santa Barbara Women's Tennis team. A long weekend full of just Big West opponents gave the Gauchos a good look at what they will see this spring.
SINGLES COMPETITION
Three of the six competitors won their opening round match.
Carla Pacot defeated her opponent from Hawai'i while
Katarina Vayser won her matchup against Long Beach State. UC Santa Barbara newcomer
Shachf Lieberman was the last Gaucho to advance out of the round of 64. In the round of 32 Lieberman would be the only Gaucho left standing with a quick 6-0, 6-1 victory over her opponent from UC Irvine. Her run continued in the round of 16 with another quick victory before it came to a close in the quarter finals.
DOUBLE COMPETITION
Two of the Gauchos three doubles pairings would advance out of the opening round.
Raphaelle Leroux and My-Anh Holms blanked their opponent before
Emma Tutoveanu and
Lily Pradkin won a tough 8-6 battle. In the round of 16 Leroux and Holmes battled to an 8-6 victory but Tutoveanu and Pradkin would fall, ending their run.
Leroux and Holmes kept the momentum all the way through the quarterfinals as they won another match 8-6 before advancing into the finals with a 8-5 semifinal victory over Long Beach State. In the finals, Leroux and Holmes would take home the hardware with a 6-2, 7-6 (2) victory to claim the title.
