Gauchos Finish Second in the Fall Navy Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. –  The Gauchos have wrapped up the 2025 Naval Academy Fall Invitational. Overall, the team finished second out of eight attending schools. The Women's team finished third overall behind Villanova and Navy. The Men's team finished second out of five teams behind the hosts of this weekend's event.

The Blue and Gold wrapped up a strong showing on the East Coast this weekend, highlighted by a strong start. Jack Hendrick finished third in the 1650 free. Hazel Derr finished first in the 200 Back with a time of 1:57.60.

Diego Castaneda finished third in the 200 back with a time of 1:46.17, Lucas Hubbard finished fourth with a time of 1:46.18; Eugeanie Lanilis finished third in the 100 Free (50.43), and Gretta Callison finished fourth with a time of 50.59.

The Gauchos did not slow after the hot start to day three. Elek Zettle finished third in the 100 free, 43.78. Mai Kawahata finished with silver in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:13.40. The women's 400 free relay team finished first, handling business on the road in Annapolis (3:21.00). The men's 400 Free relay finished with silver with a time of 2:54.74

Samantha Banos finished first in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:56.14 (second all-time in UCSB history). She now holds Two of the top-five on the UC Santa Barbara all-time 200 Butterfly Women's Time Records.

Next Time Out

This weekend concludes the 2025 portion of the UC Santa Barbara swim season. On January 10, 2026, the women's team will be back in action at UCLA. The entire team will make the 2026 debut at home in the 805 for a tri-meet with the University of Pacific and UC Davis.
