IRVINE, Calif. – After dominating the course during her debut season, Addie Oversmith has been named the 2025 Big West Women's Freshman of the Year, the conference announced this morning.
Oversmith made an immediate impact in her first collegiate season, not only leading her team in every meet this season, but also regularly finding her place on the podium against seasoned competitors across the West Coast. The freshman from North Carolina made her mark in the Santa Barbara Cross Country record book, performing the ninth-best all-time Women's 6K with a time of 20:33.6 at the Bronco Invitational on Oct. 18.
At the Big West Championships on Oct. 31, Oversmith notably finished sixth overall with a time of 21:28.9 on the 6K course. Outside of the Big West, Oversmith wrapped up her season at NCAA Division I West Regionals in Sacramento, where she had the opportunity to compete stride-for-stride against the toughest competition across the West Coast.
Oversmith becomes the first women's cross country runner to earn a Big West award since the 2017 season, when Jenna Hinkle won Athlete of the Year. Additionally, Oversmith is just the second Women's Freshman of the Year for UC Santa Barbara and the first since 2007.
