HOUSTON, Texas – UC Santa Barbara Men's and Women's Swim competed in day three of the Big West Championships, taking home eight first place finishes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Four team records were set in Houston today. Kyle Brill set his in a winning effort in the 400-yard IM – which was also the fastest by any Big West swimmer ever. Matt Driscoll did the same in the 100-yard backstroke. Driscoll and Brill were joined by Justin Wong and Austin Sparrow to set the conference and school record in the 400-yard medley relay. Wong took second in the 100-yard butterfly – with his time the fastest by any Gaucho ever.
Samantha Banos, Makena Leacox, and Hazel Derr took solo victories for the women's team in the 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, and 100-yard backstroke respectively. These three were complemented by Ashley Ray to win the 400-yard medley relay. Austin Sparrow rounded out the individual victories for the Blue and Gold today, with his gold-worthy performance in the 200-yard freestyle.
Ashley Ray and Jonah Lee both finished runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke. Taber daCosta earned silver in the 400-yard IM behind teammate Kyle Brill.

The Gauchos wrap up competition tomorrow with the 1650-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, and 400-yard freestyle relay at 4 p.m.
