UNIVERSITY PLACE, WASH. - The UC Santa Barbara men's golf team recently competed in the Seattle University Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Washington, on March 31 and April 1, 2025. This tournament marked their return to Chambers Bay, a venue where they achieved a notable second-place finish in 2018.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The par 72 course offered plenty of challenges for not just the Gauchos but all teams in the tournament. Only 11 rounds were under par for the 18 teams competing. In the opening round Jack Watters and Nick Waldock led the way shooing a 74 and 75 respectively. Watters recorded four birdies in the opening round to lead the team in that category.
In the second round Waldock improved his score by seven shots and recording the only under-par round of the tournament for the Gauchos. The sophomore recorded a three under, 68 and recorded five birdies including a stretch of three straight from holes one, two and three. As a team in round two, the Gauchos improved on their round one score by 16 strokes.
In the third and final round of the Invitational, Ryan Gay led the way with a one over, 73. That tied his second round score and best round of the tournament. Jackson Turner carded his best round with a two over 74 and Waldock was close behind with a three over 75.Â
