AZUSA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Men's and Women's Track teams sent a majority of their heptathletes and decathletes to the Bryan Clay Invitational this weekend. On the women's side, Hanna Barmettler, Amanda Eames, Quinn Petzold, and Allison Tito represented the Gauchos in seven different events. Hudson Shaver and Braylon Noble were the two Gauchos that represented Santa Barbara on the track and in the field, competing in ten different events over the course of two days.
HEPTATHLON
In two days of competition, UC Santa Barbara made their presence known in the Women's Heptathlon, where Allison Tito competed in Group C while Hanna Barmettler, Amanda Eames, and Quinn Petzold competed in Group D.
In Group C, Tito finished with a personal record in the hepatathlon overall, scoring 4619 and placing ninth. Tito shined particularly in the jumping events, where she recorded a first-place finish in the high jump, leaping for 1.70m as well as securing a podium spot with a mark of 5.78m in the long jump.
Barmettler had the best placement out of all the Gauchos on the weekend, taking sixth overall and posting a personal best of 4447. Her highlights consisted of a first-place finish in the high jump with a jump of 1.61m and a third-place finish in the javelin with a mark of 31.43m.
Eames also had a personal best on the day as she strung together solid performances to end with a score of 4116. The 800m was where the freshman excelled in particular, taking third with a time of 2:23.24. Petzold also scored 3908, with her best performance coming in the long jump with a 5.25m jump.
DECATHLON
In the Men's Decathlon, both Shaver and Noble put on incredible performances to take second place and fourth place overall.
Shaver had a personal best on the weekend while securing second with an overall score of 6939, taking first in four separate events and third in two more. Shaver took first in the long jump (7.00m), shot put (13.73m), high jump (1.97m), and discus (44.83m) while taking third in both the javelin (51.85m) and 1500m (4:47.41).
Noble added another personal best of his own on the weekend as well, taking fourth overall with a score of 6601. The freshman took first in the 1500m, leading the pack with a time of 4:42.04. He also took third in three events, including high jump (1.94m), 400m (50.66), and pole vault (4.20m).
UP NEXT
Competition does not end with the Bryan Clay Multis this weekend as the rest of the team will be competing in the UC Santa Barbara Open at the Pauley Track in Santa Barbara, Calif. on Saturday, April 12. The one-day event will kick off with field events starting in the morning as well as track events beginning in the early afternoon into the evening.
