Gauchos Track and Field Opens Postseason With Big West Multis

IRVINE, Calif. (May. 7) – The UC Santa Barbara heptathletes and decathletes are set to open up the postseason with the Big West Multis Championships, taking place May 7-8. The two day combined event will start this Friday, and will be hosted by UV Irvine at Anteater Stadium. 

The Gauchos will face off against 11 other teams within the Big West, to determine final conference standings in the decathlon and heptathlon. UCSB will be represented by Hanna Barmettler, Bella Vally, Jess Mackenzie, Amanda Eames, and Ally Tito on the ladies side., with Hudson Shaver representing the men.

From her performance at the Bryan Clay Multis, Mackenzie currently sits second in the conference heading into the championships, well within range to take the heptathlon title back to Santa Barbara. Valley, and Barmettler also rank within the conference top 10. Shaver currently sits second in the conference decathlon standings heading into the championships, while Noble ranks fourth. 

MEET SCHEDULE
The decathlon is slated to start on Friday at 12:00 p.m. with the 100m dash, followed by the long jump at 12:45 p.m., shot put at 1:50 p.m., high jump at 2:50 p.m., and the 400m at 4:45 p.m.

The heptathlon is set for 12:15 p.m. with the 100m hurdles, followed by high jump, shot put, and the 200m dash to round out the day. 

Competition will resume the following day, with the decathlon set to start at noon again with the 110m hurdles, pole vault, javelin, and the 1500m run. The heptathlon will follow at 12:30 p.m. starting with long jump, followed by long jump and the 800m run.

NEXT UP
After the conclusion of the Big West Multis Championships, the full UCSB  track and field team will compete at the Big West Championships to determine final conference track and field standings. The Big West Championships will be hosted by Long Beach State, with prelims set for May 15, and finals following May 16.
