Gauchos Open Road Trip with Draw at UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif. – A dominant performance by the UC Santa Barbara Women's Soccer team ended in an unfortunate draw with the UC Davis Aggies. After going up in the 73rd minute, the Aggies responded with a goal in the 87th to end the game in a draw.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gauchos dominated possession for the first half but were not rewarded. After the first 45 minutes, UC Santa Barbara outshot UC Davis 9-2. In the 24th minute, the Gauchos had multiple scoring chances off three corners but could not net the initial goal in the game. Santa Barbara continued their offensive pressure with more corner kicks and forced the Aggie goalkeeper to make multiple saves. At the end of the first half, the Gauchos and Aggies headed to the locker room knotted at zero.

As the second half started, the Gauchos continued to dominate the possession and the offensive side of the ball. After a few substitutions in the 68th minute the Gauchos were able to take advantage of Davis's physicality. A foul inside the 18-yard box led to a Gauchos penalty kick. Sophia Moness stepped up and netted the PK to give the Gauchos the lead in the 73rd minute.

With seven minutes to go, the Gauchos started to hold on to the ball and keep it in the corner, away from UC Davis. Unfortunately, once Davis gained back possession, the Aggies attacked down the field, resulting in a goal in the 87th minute. A cross into the box, bounced around and found the foot of an Aggie forward to net the equalizer and end the game in a draw.
