Shepard strides to secure 60m dash record

Shepard Breaks Third School Record at Nevada Invitational

RENO, Nev. (Jan 17) – It's a hat trick: sophomore Mia Shepard collects her third indoor program record after representing the UC Santa Barbara Women's Track and Field team this past weekend at the Nevada Invitational, hosted by Nevada.

After shattering the previous school records in the 200m and 400m earlier in December, Shepard proves her versatility on the track as she dips her toe in the 60-meter dash. On the first day of competition, Shepard lined up for the 60 prelims, where she won her heat in a time of 7.59 to secure a spot in the finals taking place later that day.

In the finals, Shepard ran a blazing time of 7.53 to finish not only fourth overall, but to secure yet another school record. The previous record was set by Amor Jones in 2024, with Shepard shaving off an impressive hundredth of a second to make school history.

On Saturday, Shepard returned to the track for the 400 meters. Using the bank to her advantage, Shepard crossed the line in a time of 52.96, gaping her competition by nearly two seconds to finish first overall.

Shepard continues to deliver impressive performances meet after meet, rewriting record books and pushing herself to new heights with every race. Shepard, along with the rest of the UC Santa Barbara Indoor Track and Field team, will be seen in action next weekend for the UW Invitational on January 30.
