PALM DESERT, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Golf team opened up the spring season this week at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Wyoming. The Gauchos finished tied for 11th place out of 23 teams, along with sophomores Dylan Ma and Jack Watters finishing in the top 25.
ROUND ONE
The Gauchos' posted their highest round on the first day of the tournament, shooting a 291 (+3). Jack Watters led the charge with an impressive five-under 67, four birdies and one eagle. Watters was tied for first place after the first round. Following closely behind was Dylan Ma, who finished with a 72 and three birdies.
ROUND TWO
The Gauchos began climbing the ranks on day two of the tournament, shooting a 288 (E). This day it was Dylan Ma leading the way, posting a three-under 69 with three birdies. Just trailing Ma was Nick Waldock, who finished with a two-under 70 and four birdies.
ROUND THREE
On the final day, the Gauchos fired a 289 (+1), shooting up to the seventh best score for the day and moving them up three spots to 11th place in the tournament. For the final day, it was more of the same from Ma and Waldock, who both shot a one-under 71 with four birdies. Watters was close behind with a 72 and five birdies.
NOTABLES
- The Gauchos finished the highest of any Big West team in the competition.
- UCSB played the par fives 22-under, tied for second-best.
- Andrew Reyes and Jack Watters each had one eagle in the tournament, tying for third overall.

The Gauchos will now begin to focus on the Cabo Collegiate, which takes place this Sunday, March 1 through Tuesday, March 3 and is hosted by the University of Arkansas.
