Men’s Tennis Set for Back-to-Back Road Challenges

| By:
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Men's Tennis team will look to carry their momentum away from home, opening a two-match road trip at the Zimmerman Tennis Center on Feb. 6 against Pacific, whom they swept just two weeks ago at ITA Kickoff Weekend, followed by a matchup at Santa Clara on Feb. 7.

LAST TIME OUT
The Gauchos are now 4-0 in the spring after taking down South Florida 5-2.

The Gauchos seized control early by locking up the doubles point behind decisive wins on courts two and three, setting the tone for the afternoon. Momentum carried into singles as No. 79 Lucca Liu, who was just named the Big West Player of the Week, delivered a dominant straight-set win at the top spot, followed by Miguel Avendano's commanding performance on court three to extend the lead. Conrad Brown sealed the victory at No. 6, while UCSB continued to stack points across the lineup to close out a convincing team win.

ABOUT THE TIGERS
Since the Gauchos last faced the Tigers a couple of weeks ago, Pacific enters the matchup riding the momentum of wins over New Mexico, 4-1, and fellow Big West opponent UC Davis, 4-2, to sit at 3-1 on the season, with its lone loss coming against the Blue and Gold.

This season, sophomores Jonty Giesen and Niv Zuckerman lead the team with two wins apiece in singles play and also lead the team in doubles wins as a pair, going 2-1 on court one. Head coach Clifton Awuy continues his first season at the helm after spending the past two years as an assistant and just last week named Adi Kremer, Pacific Hall-of-Famer, to be his assistant coach.

ABOUT THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara enters the contest with a 4-1 record on the season, coming off a narrow 4-3 victory over Oregon. The Broncos are led by head coach Niall Angus, now in his 10th season at the helm, and assistant coach Josh Page in his second year, after finishing last season ranked for 11 straight weeks and ending at No. 73 nationally with eight of nine players returning for this season.

In doubles, the pairing of Luca Bluett and John Kim is ranked No. 17 nationally, fueled by two wins over top-12 doubles teams this season. Freshman mid-year enrollee Ferran Redza also made an immediate impact, clinching the 4-3 win over Oregon in his collegiate singles debut to earn WCC Men's Tennis Freshman of the Week honors.
